Fixing up the Spitfire (car)
I’ve been building the train set, on and off, for about four years. Once in a while the urge suddenly takes me and I’ll work on the layout for a few weeks in the evenings. The layout is semi-permanent – ie it could come apart if it had to – but remains in place in the shed.

The layout measures 12ft x 8ft and is basically a folded over figure 8 with electric points that allow a circuit at the lower level. The slopes are hidden behind the station and hills on the left.

A lot of work has gone into the set, first making the baseboard – a series of wooden frames with ‘sundeala’ nailed on top. Then came the tracks and ramps, then the scenery – which is basically chicken wire stapled in place, covered in rags dipped in builders plaster, painted with PVA and then covered with various model railway scatter. Most of the buildings are from the Hornby Scaledale range (ready made & painted).

I’ve got about 40 locos & loads of rolling stock – I need thin these out – e-bay is good for buying & selling model railway stuff.

When I do some more on this, I’ll add some pictures & possibly a building page.
