Fixing up the Spitfire (car)
Great fun to drive - without breaking the speed limit!
The biggest and favourite “toy”. It is a 1974 Triumph Spitfire, 1300cc and has done less than 50,000 miles. I had a blue one of these as my first car & nothing has really ever come close. I bought from a specialist company called JY Classics – run by an extremely friendly & knowledgeable fellow known as “Jonny Spitfire” (John Yarnell). I’ve had the car a couple of years & never had any trouble with it.

The only modifications that I have made have been to fit a (Bell) stainless steel straight through twin exhaust and K&N air filters. It is these two factors that boost the power & give it that great noise (at least I think it is great). The other thing I did was to wire up a starter button to the dash – this is much more fun than starting on the key!

In the car looks & sounds a lot faster than it is really going – this is probably one of the best features of the cars – with speeding cameras & the general social unacceptability of driving fast these days.

It could do with a new hood & seat covers – but somehow I never seem to get round to these – perhaps this is part of the charm….
I just love the lines - nothing modern comes close for me.
Engine easy to work on
Twin K&N filters give a real power boost & make a great 'sucking' noise.
Best thing about the car is the noise. These are responsible for that!

The roof is always off - even in December!
